Past Hive Beach the cliffs slowly drop down to the shingle of Chesil Beach , an 18 mile shingle barrier beach from West Bay to Portland.
In spring on the shingle at Cogden the dominant plant is Sea Kale together with Thrift , Yellow Horned Poppies , Sea Campion ,....
A surfaced path at the back of the beach leads to a road / car park at West Bexington.
The original route of the Coast Path followed 17 mile 'The South Dorset Ridgeway' from West Bexington to Osmington Mills.
A more Coastal route to Portland was added in 2003 , it moves inland at Abbotsbury ( Chapel / Swannery ), rejoing the Coast at Langton.
Then follows coast along the shoreline of 'The Fleet' with the shingle Chesil Beach to the south.
