The oldest of the raised beaches at Portland Bill , 210,000 years old , resting on the massively bedded Portland Stone.
The beach is seen as masses of rounded pebbles lying on a shattered surface of hard limestone rock.
The MOD buildings sit on most of the Western Raised Beach at White Hole , making access difficult.
A system of joints run throughout the Island , these Gullies enable the Quarrymen to work the stone.
