A Holy Well or Sacred Spring on the hillside above Glenthorne House .
Erected in C19 , built into the hillside with flanking splayed retaining walls .
An arch of coarse stone rubble , forms a chamber with a spring inside , Stone Cross above ,
The spring water runs into an oval pool down the hill ,formed by stone rubble retaining walls.
The Spring head was named after the neices of the first owner of the Glenthorne Estate.
There is a legend that Jesus drank here, as a youth, when he passed this way with his uncle
the Phoenician tin trader Joseph of Arimathea, on their way to Glastonbury.
Joseph is said to have struck the ground with his staff, prompting the flowing of the holy water.
