Ashley Combe Tunnels
The Coast Path passes through these tunnels with grottos / lookout towers
part of the grand Italian garden of Ashley Combe House (demolished 1974)
Two of a number tunnels constructed by Swiss mountaineers for Lady Ada Lovelace (daughter of Lord Byron) ,
so that tradesmen could approach the house without being seen by the residents
and allow the Lady to access her private beach unseen.
