The name derives from folklore - the dolmen was erected one morning before breakfast by three spinsters
or spinning women, to amuse themselves .
On the North Eastern edge of Dartmoor.
The best surviving example in Devon of a neolithic burial chamber known as a Dolmen / Cromlech
with a 16 ton Capstone (4.5 x3.1m) , 1.7m above ground level - supported by 3 granite uprights .
Originally covered with earth or smaller stones to form a barrow.
The stones collapsed during a storm in 1862 , rebuilt in a similar style.
