Veins of Soapstone (Steatite) in the Serpentine Cliffs at the back of Mullion Cove .
In the 1750s Mullion Cove was quarried for the mineral Soapstone (Steatite) ,
for use in the manufacture of "Soft Paste Porcelain" .
The tea and coffee pots and cups , etc. made using this material
were able to withstand boiling water without cracking.
