To the north of Fistrals sandy beach is a rocky foreshore with Sandrock in the cliffs behind.
Sandrock was formed when the sea level was higher than now - some 190,000 years ago.
Beach sands with a high calcium carbonate content from shell material became cemented together
to form the Sandrock.
At this location subsequent localised dissolution and reprecipitation by meteoric waters has resulted in the
formation of vertically orientated cylindrical pipes .
Extensive patches of Hottentot Fig are in this area.
