Rock - Mica Schist - Polpeor Cove (S22)
Some of the oldest known rocks in Cornwall occur around Lizard Point.
Mica Schist can be found in the cliffs at Polpeor Cove.
The Schists, are over 500 million years old , formed from the metamorphosism at high temperatures
and pressures of fine grained sediments (mudstones),
when a section of oceanic crust was thrust over the continental crust after two continents collided.
