At the back of the beach is the warehouse of the sepentine works together with a round tower
from the earlier fishing industry.

The round tower (1770) used to house a capstan to haul by manpower the fishing boats and nets up the slipway..

Adjacent to the Capstan Tower is a 3 storey warehouse of the serpentine works (1853-1893) .
The workshop footings and the waterwheel pit (a steam engine was used later) are all that remain of
the other structures.
The Serpentine rock was cut, shaped and polished here and exported around the world .
Large architectural items were made - fonts , pulpits , lecternes ,vases, pillars , mantlepieces , architectural veneers ...
