Small man-made benches where the Sett Makers crouched in all weather making the setts (granite cobbles) ,
to pave the local streets.
The clitter around the Staple Tors produced a substantial Granite cutting business , operating on the moor ,
around 1870 .
Large pieces of granite were drilled and split then dressed with hammer and chisel on the stone benches ,
to produced Setts (8 x 4 x 5 inches) and Kerbstones.
