The field systems are above Challacombe Medieval Village.
The terraces are a type of Medieval agricultural terracing.
When the land was cleared of rocks they were used to build Walls.
Strip plowing by Oxen caused the soil to slip and eventually reach the top of the walls creating the Lynchets.
