Belemnite Pavement - Seatown (S41)

A view over the Belemnite Pavement - a thin bed of Argillaceous Limestone.
Below is the Belemnite Marl member - also containing Belemnite Fossils.
Above is the green Ammonite member of the Charmouth Mudstone Formation.
Belemnites were carnivorous and free swimming squid-like creatures with a long bullet shaped body .
In the animal’s tail, the skeleton ,made of calcite , is the part commonly found as a fossil.
