Greensand Cliffs (S40)

The Greensand - Dunscombe Cliffs - are very noticeable to the East of the Red Triassic Salcombe Hill Cliff to the east of Sidmouth .
The formation in the Sidmouth-Beer area is 45-55 m thick .
The name Greensand comes from the Green Mineral Glauconite - layed down in a tropical marine environment.
When the Glauconite has weathered or washed out completely the Upper Greensand on the Devon Coast
is either in shades of brown or pale yellow.
