The White Chalk Cliffs Between Branscombe Mouth and Seaton Hole are the Westernmost stretch of Chalk Cliffs on the English Channel Coast
The Chalk is the youngest of the Jurassic Coasts Rocks. Formed at the end of the Cretaceous period
in a tropical sea by Algae - Coccolithophores - discarding their tiny protective shields of calcium carbonate.
Vast numbers of the shields (coccoliths) collected on the sea floor , and compacted over time formed the white chalk.
