Common Cow - Wheat
"Melampyrum Pratense" in Hisley Wood
Common Cow-wheat is an annual hemi - parasitic plant which brightens up the edges of acid woodland.
The plant has pairs of yellow flowers , both facing the same way , and is an indicator of ancient woodland.
Wood Ants disperse the seeds as they take them back to their nests.
