Numerous Folds can be seen in the Cliffs to the west of the Beach - formed from the Middle Devonian - Hangman Sandstone Grits.

Glenthorne is a SSSI because of the Trentishoe Formation of the Hangman Sandstone Group.
These are unusual freshwater deposits in the Hangman Grits, which were mainly formed in desert conditions.
The Hangman Sandstone represents the Middle Devonian sequence of North Devon and Somerset.
