Folds - 1

A view of Folds in the Cliffs to the East of Glenthorne Beach -
formed from the Middle Devonian - Hangman Sandstone Grits .
Glenthorne Beach shows fine exposures of the Hangman Sandstone Formation ( around 390 mya)
that underlie Exmoor’s “hogsback” hills.
--------------------
Glenthorne is a SSSI because of the Trentishoe Formation of the Hangman Sandstone Group.
These are unusual freshwater deposits in the Hangman Grits, which were mainly formed in desert conditions.
The Hangman Sandstone represents the Middle Devonian sequence of North Devon and Somerset.
