Looking over Ant Hills created by Yellow Meadow Ants (Lasius Flavas) to one of the Cairns on Cox Tor.
An impressive collection of Ant mounds can be found on all of the terraces around Cox Tor.
Cox Tor is formed from a Metadolerite Sill covered with well drained brown soils , providing an ideal location for ants in the past.
Most of Dartmoor Tors are Granite with poorly drained peaty soils.
