Pillow Mound
Pillow Mound

A solitary Pillow Mound - 11m x 5m and 1.6m high - to the north of Crockern , an artificial mound built for
Rabbits to live and breed in dry chambers .
The Rabbits were raised for Sport and Market ( meat and pelts )
A round-topped, rectangular-shaped mound of soil and stone, surrounded on three sides by
a drainage ditch - 2.8m wide and 0.6m deep.
Another 5 Pillow Mounds (Buries) can be found to the east of Crockern (SX 6109 7569)
They form an outlying part of a substantial Warren (North of Wistmans Wood ), established in 1895
by James Saltroun of Powder Mills and abandoned by 1914 .
