This cross stands one of the main tracks across the moor - The Abbots’ Way (23 mile monastic route) .
The cross 2m tall and 0.8m across has a repaired broken shaft .
The ancient name of Siward’s Cross - derived from Earl Siward, a Saxon, who owned the lands
around Tavistock prior to the Norman Conquest

Location - South of Princetown
Route - take Tor Royal Lane out of Princetown. Parking - near end of lane and a few spaces at
SX 609 708 near a stone bridge close to Whiteworks .
The stone bridge is over the Devonport Leat , head southwest , follow the Leat to a Clapper Bridge ,
Nuns Cross is to the west.
