
The cliffs are of fine-grained alluvial Permian Breccias , with beds of coarse pebbles and boulders.
Fallen Boulders of Breccia at the foot of the cliffs at Ness Cove shows the coarse material well 
and includes Clasts of Sandstone ,  Devonian Limestone  and Igneous rock in the form of a 
Quartz Porphyry or Porphyritoic Rhyolite of which there is no known local outcrop. 
A possible source is the roof rock of the intrusion that formed Dartmoor.
