Fossils - Stromatoporoid Sponges , Tabulated Corals , Goniates (coiled snail shells) can be found
in the Devonian Age Limestone platform at the end of Hope's Nose .
Above the platform , the thin bedded Limestones in the low Cliffs and old Quarry contain Brachiopod Shells ,
as do the Sandstone and Slate Cliffs on the North side of the headland.
Hope's Nose is an SSSI , important for the Global Geopark status enjoyed by Torbay.
Rare minerals - Selenium , Palladium , Gold ,...have been found in Veins in the Limestone.
Hope's Nose is named from the word 'hoop'.
It's hooked shape provided a temporary anchorage for ships caught in south-westerly gales.
Location - Hope's Nose is the most easterly headland of Torquay ,
to the east of Meadfoot Beach and Thatcher Point , in Gallery 37
