Betwen Bolt Tail and Start Point are the oldest rocks in Devon , the Lower Devonian Schists .
Mostly the Shinny Grey Mica Schists formed of the flaky mineral Mica .
Quartz forms bands in this rock type.
Also Green Hornblende Schists , the two types can be interbanded .
Schists can be cut easily into elongated shapes and has been used as a local building stone in the South Hams..
