Follow the path down to the beach ( the former route of the mines tramway ) and this attractive area
with a pool can be found.
These are some of the former workings of the Gravel Hill Iron Mine.
The mine worked the Great Perran Iron Lode producing brown haematite , limonite , siderite and some zinc.
2 Adits (now gated) enter the bottom of the cliff face and would have served to drain the mine
which was worked from Shafts on the cliff top .
The Great Perran Iron Lode , up to 20m wide , extends from the coast exposure at Gravel Hill
for almost 3 miles to one mile southwest of St. Newlyn East .
Quarries and a drift mine in the cliffs above.
