Higher Bal / Higher Levant - 2 (S12)
The substantial granite retaining wall of Higher Bal .
The tall archway provided the entrance to the steps leading up to the Guide Shaft Engine House.
The smaller arch provided a road level access to the shaft.
The two V - notches are ore-passes , chutes down which ore was tipped into carts on the road below
and transported to the Stamps at Levant.
