Moho - Coverack (S24)

Coverack is one of the few places in the world where the ocean crust and the mantle are exposed
on the earth’s surface and also the boundary between the Earth’s Crust and the Earth’s Mantle
known as the Mohorovicic Discontinuity (the “Moho”) .
Typically the boundary lies at 7-10 km beneath the sea floor (20-35km below the Continents)
---------------------------------
The rocks to the South and near Coverack Harbour are of Peridotites from the Earths Mantle - mostly Serpentinised ,
to some extent , known as Harzburgites and Lherzolites , lifted by colliding continents 380 million years ago.
Halfway across the beach the rocks change to a mixture of Serpentine , TROCTOLITE , and Gabbro .
At the far side of the beach Paler Coloured coarse grained Gabbro from the Oceanic Crust.
