one of two exposures in north Devon of the Hangman Sandstone formation .

The Coast Path runs along North Walk passing Victorian hotels crossing the line of the cliff railway between Lynton and Lynmouth.
The famous water powered cliff railway dates from 1890, when it was originally built to carry freight
brought by sea to Lynmouth Harbour up to Lynton.
