Verity is a bronze sculpture by artist Damien Hirst .
Erected October 2012 at the entrance to ILfracombe harbour.
A striking , if gruesome , 43 ft tall sculpure - 66ft with sword - an allegory for truth and justice ,
standing on a pile of legal books.
Part of one half of the body has the skin peeled back and reveals a developing foetus inside the womb .
The title 'Verity' is from the Latin 'Veritas' .
She holds the traditional symbols denoting Justice –
The Scales are held behind her back and a Sword in an upstretched arm.
