The ruin on The Warren is a folly . Built possibly in the sixteenth century as a warrener's house.
Altered in the eighteenth century , known as The Pleasure House , and probably used for picnics ,
with high arches to permit carriages inside its walls .
In this photo St Nectan's Church Tower at Stoke is in the distance.
Nearby is Rocket House . It used to store equipment for helping ships in distress.
Rescuers would fire a line to a ship in trouble , allowing a breeches buoy to haul the crew to shore.
