Loess - Lowland Point (S24)

Loess is sediment deposited about 20,000 -15,000 years ago , during the last Glaciation,
and forming much of the land at Lowland Point.
Formed by windblown silt from the dry floor of the now Celtic and Irish Seas .
Loess an orange brown silty clay can be up to 2m deep and overlays and binds together
a Raised Beach (the raised beach extends to Coverack)
During the 19th Century loess was dug out and used as casting “sand” by the foundries at Hayle.
