Lanyon Quoit - Portal Dolmen - 1

Lanyon Quoit - a Portal Dolmen - dates from the Neolithic period (3500-2500BC).
The 13.6 tonnes capstone rests on 1.5m high uprights .
The monument collapsed during a storm in 1815 and was re-erected in 1824 on 3 shorter uprights.

Location - West Cornwall - Lands End Penninsula / West Penwith
The Quoit is situated in a field by the side of the Morvah to Madron road.
It can be seen when travelling south - just passed Lanyon Farm where there is a layby
with space for a couple of cars and a small National Trust sign on the Cornish Hedge.
