Porth Nanven - Raised Beach

At the back of the boulder strewn beach is a raised beach.
The raised beach consists of rounded pebbles and boulders of granite, greenstone and slate,
whilst the head is composed solely of angular fragments of granite.
The rounded boulders of varying sizes were deposited about 120,000 years ago
when sea levels were higher (12m) than now .
Overlaid with a considerable head of angular frost shattered rocks from 10,000 to 100,000 years ago.
