On the 29th Dec. 1807 the Royal Navy Frigate H.M.S Anson was wrecked off Loe Bar.
100 men were drowned and buried in pits dug on unconsecrated ground on the cliffs with no burial rites.
The memorial was erected in 1949 and overlooks Loe Bar .
The memorial at Portleven was dedicated at the same time.
