An Elvan Dyke is exposed in the cliffs at Polrudden Cove.
The fine-grained Elvan of granitic composition , was quarried at the top of the cliff .
The golden yellow stone was easily carved (a freestone).
The Elvan can be traced inland for about half a mile to an overgrown quarry in the valley behind Pentewan Village - The probable source of most of the Stone - Pentewan Stone - used in old buildings.
