Common Dodder
Common Dodder

A view over a patch of Dodder - "Cuscuta Epithymum".
In the distance is Rinsey Head with a house on the very edge of the clifftop .
-----------------------
Dodder is a parasitic plant, feeding off its host plant , up which it climbs with red, thread-like stems.
It can be found on a number of plants , especially on heathland, living off heather, or as here, living off gorse.
It has been called devil's hair, hellweed, strangleweed
As an annual, it germinates from seed early in the year, builds up a big root system, and then as the stems
grow and attach themselves to the host, the underground roots will die off.
