The cliffs at 'Little Strand' are thinly interbedded sandstones and shales ,
part of the Upper Carboniferous age Crackington Formation.
The Sedimentary rock layers were deformed , over a period of 80 -100 million years ,
during the Variscan Orogeny (mountain building period ) .
Complex folding at this location with Crumpled recumbent chevron folds .
