Pencannow Point on the northern headland of Crackington Haven .
The small unspoiled cove at Crackington Haven has a pleasant west facing beach .
The cliffs show extensive folding in the dark mudstones and grey sandstones (upper carboniferous )
by the Variscan earth movements at the end of the Carboniferous Period .
The Carboniferous rocks in this area are so important geologically that they have been assigned a name -
"The Crackington Formation" .
