Windy Post / Beckamoor Cross , (possibly 16th century) , is conspicuously sited on a col
between Barn Hill and Feather Tor.
One of the Wayside Crosses along the Abbots’ Way connecting Buckfast with Buckland and Tavistock Abbeys.
The Grimstone & Sortridge Leat runs close by .
The Leat takes water off the River Walkham about 4 kilometres to the north east .
At the cross the leat splits into two. In the photo the Leat to the right , heads South West to supply the
Old Manors of Grimstone and Sortridge in the Parish of Horrabridge.
The water in the other Leat heads South , having passed through a 'bulls - eye' or ‘inch-hole’ , in a stone slab ,
a common feature on Dartmoor for supplying a fixed amount of water - to in this case the farms below Pew Tor.
