Great Staple Tor - 4
Great Staple Tor - 4

An Extensive clitter field around the Staple Tors ( Little, Mid and Great) that was exploited
in the 19th century to make a granite stone dressing industry.
Clitter provided a source of stone for both industrial use and for general purposes.
Sett Makers used clitters on the tors around the central western area of Dartmoor.
The sett makers would sit at small, low benches made from granite slabs known as bankers
where they would chip away at the granite blocks making kerb stones and setts.
