A closer view of Bovisand Fort
The fort has 23 Casemates with 3ft. thick Ironclad Shields of wrought iron plates fixed to a concrete ,
iron or teak core.
Initially 22 9-inch RMLs (Rifled Muzzel Loaders ) guns and 1 10-inch RML gun were installed
to fire through the openings in the Shields.
In 1956 the Ministry of Defence closed the fort.
