A Sherman Tank acts as a memorial to the loss of Life during 'Exercise Tiger -
The D Day Practice Landings on Slapton Sands.
On the night of 27th April 1944 - German E-Boats approached 8 LSTs (Landing Ship Tanks)
in the Lyme Bay area and began firing torpedoes , 749 soldiers lost their lives that night.
The Tank was raised from the Sea in 1984

Strete Gate is about 2.5 miles away .
The Path runs along side the A379 Road and Slapton Sands (shingle beach).
Inland is the Slapton Ley Nature Reserve .
Passed Slapton Bridge the northern section of the ley has silted up.
