Goniatites - Fossils - Wanson Mouth (S7)

At Wanson Mouth a few fossils may with luck be found in the scree below the Cliffs, to the north of the path
down to the beach .
On this 5ins (13cm ) wide piece of mudstone rock are number of small fossils
of Goniatites ( Gastrioceras Coronatum ) .
Goniatites had a Shell coiled in a flat spiral and were widespread in the seas that surrounded the
Carboniferous swamps , some 310 million years ago.

Wanson Mouth is south of Widemouth Sand in Gallery 7
It can be reached on a low tide from Widemouth Sand or the FP off the minor road leading to Millook .
