Kynance Gate
Kynance Gate

Clustered around a rocky Serpentine outcrop are the remains of a prehistoric settlement.
First occupied in the Bronze Age (1200 - 1000/600 BC).
The site was occupied again in the Iron Age (500BC-100AD).
This later settlement consists of a group of 9 stone walled round houses linked by low walls ,
together with another group of 5 houses further to the north.
The settlement may have only been used during the summer months when the farmers
brought their animals to the area for grazing .
Excavated 1953-64. Becoming overgrown with scrub !!

Location - West Cornwall - Lizard Penninsula - Above Kynance Cove
Route - From the NT Car Park at Kynance Cove , take the road which leads to the cafe .
When the road takes a sharp left ,where it starts dropping down to the cafe , take the track on the right .
After 100m along an often wet / muddy track take a left ,down the side of a valley.
Cross a bridge , through a gate , head right along a fence line for a few paces ,
then climb up the other side of the valley to the site on the moorland just above.
