The Watch House
The Watch House

The Watch House , on Dodman Point , was built in 1794 during the Napoleonic Wars
on the site of an Armada Beacon (1588) ,
as part of a chain of coastal signal stations supplying information on shipping movements to the Royal Navy.
A walled lookout platform , painted white , with access steps adjoins the watch house.
Cables would have run from the 4 stone blocks with shackles to a Central Signalling Pole , to stabilise it.
The station was reused by the coastguard in the mid-1830s, and again in World War I.
Recently restored with the site enclosed by railings.
