On the 30th December 1979 the freezer trawler 'Ben Asdale' was loading fish into the hold
of the Russian factory ship 'Antartica' anchored in Falmouth Bay.
Moving away in gale force conditions the stern rope fouled the rudder , the bow rope parted and an anchor failed .
The Ben Asdale drifted and struck the rocks off Maenporth , 11 people were saved ,
3 men (two Britons and a Russian) were drowned.
