The Whale Rock is a type of Anticline upfold.
The Upfold is classed as a "Pericline" , as it dips down at the ends of the fold as well ,
resembling an upturned ships Hull .
Formed of fine sandstone and thin shale beds from the Late Carboniferous Period .
