The Red River flows across the beach .
The river, 8 miles (13 kilometres) long gets its name from the mineral deposits associated
with tin mining which formerly coloured its water red (Caused by Iron Oxide )
The river also carried fine grained Cassiterite which was recovered in the tin streaming works.
Godrevy Beach to the north of the river and Gwithian Towans Beach to the south.
